Shop Information

Ragbags are fashionable products made from recycled plastic bags and rags, collected and fabricated by ‘ragpickers’ in the slums of Delhi and small villages in Tamil Nadu (India).

The production in Delhi is done by Conserve. They work with rag pickers, who collect the plastic waste and sell it to the collection centers where they wash and clean it. The bags are sorted on colours and pressed to thicker sheets. Finally they go to small fabricators who make them into new products. The project is already creating jobs for more than 60 ragpickers, people at collection centers and fabricators in New Delhi,.

The production in Tamil Nadu is done by Green Innovations. They work with people in a small village in South India, were they collect used tea bigbags from the tea factories and plantations.

Both producers are following Fair Trade principles and more than 25% of the net consumer price goes to the producers, providing them and their families ‘means of livelihood’ and access to more opportunities.

Ragbag products are designed by talented Dutch designers: Ellen Sillekens (Rietveld Academy) and Vera Winthagen (Design Academy). Ragbag has won the following Awards:

  • European Bussiness Award for the Environment 2006
  • Brand with a Conscience 2009
