10 cm Filling Chamber Mattress with Organic Millet Shells or Spelt Husks | speltex

We spend a large part of our lives in bed – it is all the more important that the room climate in the bedroom is good. Speltex natural mattresses with an organic grain filling and a cover made of certified organic cotton contribute to a positive climate in the bedroom.

With a height of 10 cm, speltex filling chamber mattresses already develop optimal lying properties. They can be used as the sole mattress on slatted frames with a maximum of 2 cm slat distance. With a coconut mat, they can be stiffened on the underside so that even larger slat distances do not have any disadvantages.

For reasons of weight and handiness, these mattresses are available up to a maximum width of 80 cm. But there is the possibility to widen the lying area by 10 to 20cm with the help of bolsters and additional outer covering.

Organic Millet Hulls

Millet hulls are adjustable and cuddly like soft sand and are low-noise being moved. In order to make this material keep its wonderful qualities during use we bathe the millet husks in liquid vegetal latex, which is being absorbed by the husks. Once being dry the latex gives the husks a stabilizing structure due to the typical flexible resistance of latex. The millet hulls are now protected from rubbing off and become more endurable without loosing their permeability. The coating of latex gives the filling more cohesion and improves its sustaining qualities. The very smooth and round millet husks adopt the individual contours of your head, neck and shoulders. The millet mattress gives comfortable support. You can relax wonderfully while feeling perfectly sustained. The fact that millet hulls with natural latex are free of dust reduces the allergic risk for many sensible users. Only a high sensibility against latex products gives reasons for not using the mattress.

Organic Spelt Husks

Spelt husks can spread the pressure of the body’s weight very equally and offer a great measure of air circulation thus working against heat accumulation and sweating. After an intensive quality selection we bathe the spelt hulls in liquid Indian rubber in order to make this material keep its wonderful qualities during use. The rubber milk is being absorbed by the hulls and once being dry and solid the rubber gives the husks a stabilizing structure due its typical flexible resistance. The spelt husks are now protected from rubbing off and become more endurable without loosing their permeability. The treatment with rubber gives the filling more cohesion and improves its sustaining qualities. The fact that spelt husks with natural rubber are free of dust reduces the allergic risk for many sensible users. Only a high sensibility against latex products gives reasons for not using the mattress.

Usage: This natural mattress can be used on slatted frames, their distances between shall not exceed finger-width. At larger distances, a 2 cm coconut mat can provide sufficient stability. Another mattress or a flexible spring element can also serve as a layer.

Hardness grade and refilling: The filling chamber mattress is supplied with a high filler loading, you can easily customise to your needs. The single lying zones can also be filled differently – for example, fixed in the lumbar region and resilient in the pelvic and shoulder area. The filling of grain shells becomes even smoother during use and gives way in volume. To obtain the optimum sleeping comfort for you, it may be useful to fill it accordingly. Once you sink too deep in the area of the pelvis, a correction is necessary.

Washing: The mattress cover is made of a breathable, durable mattress ticking from organic cotton and is machine washable up to 95° C. The shrinking is then about 2 %. At 60° C the shrinking is under 1 %. If you put the filling in special laundry nets, you can also wash the fill to 60° C. The nets allow rapid drying. Careful adjustment of the dryer will promote long life of the filling.

Lifespan: The durability of the filling allows a use for at least eight years or more. For reasons of hygiene it can be a useful to replace it at shorter intervals. You can do this yourself or ask your dealer to send it to us. The fillings can also be emptied and composted.

The organic millet shells and spelt husks are extracted in accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EC) No 834/2007. This is audited by LACON Institute according to the EU organic regulation on origin from organic farming.
