Devil's claw originally from southern Africa and Madagascar, they are now found in the savannahs and on the outskirts of the Kalahari Desert in South Africa and Namibia .The root of the plant has been used for centuries by indigenous people in Africa as a natural remedy for various ailments. They have used devil's claw root in remedies for treating pain, for fever reduction, and in topical ointments for treating skin problems. In the 1950s, devil's claw was also introduced to Europe. There it was first used as a tea for the treatment of digestive disorders and for the treatment of painful rheumatic diseases. Further research showed that it can play a supporting role in the symptom "stiffness of the musculoskeletal system".

Devil's Claw contains high values of a constituent called iridoid glycosides. This constituent has been shown to have a significant affect on all joints of the body. The natural active ingredients in the devil's claw root for dogs and cats, especially the so-called harpagoside, supports the treatment of loss of appetite, rheumatism, arthritis, fever, myalgia, tendonitis, gastrointestinal problems, and liver and gallbladder problems.

Important: In case of ulcers or stones in the digestive tract, supplementary feeding should be avoided! We also recommend not feeding devil's claw to puppies or pregnant pets.

We recommend that pet owners start with a small amount of AniCanis® Pure Devil's Claw Powder in dogs and cats for the first few days and slowly increase the dose up to the recommended daily limit. The supplement can be easily added to your pet’s diet as recommended by your veterinarian or according to the above mentioned feeding guidelines.

In order to avoid a habituation effect, the administration of a cure has proven itself in our veterinary practice, ideally 2-3 times a year over a period of approx. 10 weeks.
