Genuine Canadian Maple Products
The company Bischoff Vertriebs GmbH imports and sells since 1976 under the brand Dietrex® genuine and natural maple products from the Canadian region around Quebec. Since 2012 the German company is focusing on maple products of certified organic farming. The certified organic range includes maple syrup, maple butter and maple sugar.
Why does it have to be organic maple syrup?
By itself, maple syrup is a pure natural product. And thus it does not contain any additives or conservatives. So why does it have to be organic? The organic cultivation of maple trees follows strict guidelines. A stable and balanced ecosystem is achieved if at least 15 % of vegetation consist of plants and trees. Thereby no use of pesticides and fertilizers is required, such as often used in the case of monocultures. Thus, the maple trees can grow free of pollutants.
Sustainability is a top priority at harvest. In the springtime the maple trees are tapped based on established ecological criteria. In addition to an appropriate size and a trunk diameter of more than 20 cm, the number of drilling holes is limited to five. To disinfect the holes and the equipment food- compatible ethyl alcohols are exclusively allowed. The trees are gently tapped in which only the natural decline of the piping system is exploited to transport the maple to the collection points. This also gives a better syrup quality. Bleaching agents which avoid drilled holes from closure are forbidden as well as to use strong pumps that increase extraction of maple sap from the trees.
To ensure the purity of the maple syrup, the syrup is transported through an air-proof piping system to the collection points for further processing and stored after heating in stainless steel tanks until bottling.
Dietrex® maple syrup has been produced according to the current legal regulations of the Canadian Department of Agriculture.
Natural sweetness
Organic maple syrup is an interesting alternative to raffinated sugar. The flavourful kind of the natural sweetness and brightness of maple syrup vary depending on the time of harvest. Therefore, maple syrup is classified into different grades.
