Environment – Climate change – Kyoto protocol – Recycled products – Circulation – Saving energy – CO2 emissions – 100 % Recycling
Against the backdrop of climate change, all these terms have nowadays a great substantive importance.
Vidrios San Miguel: Resource-efficient Glas Production in Spain
Near Valencia (Spain) Vidrios San Miguel has more than 300 employees for the production of glass products made from recycled glass. Daily 100 tons of glass are processed in an environmentally friendly process. All aspects of the Kyoto Protocol are fulfilled.
Many years ago in the context of climate change the Spanish company Vidrios San Miguel decided to produce only products made from 100% recycled glass. The recycling of used materials has many advantages.
The advantages of recycling are enormous compared to other production processes. Global warming has reached a point where every individual sustainable action from any person around the world is more than welcomed as it will contribute to reducing the consequences of this phenomena. It is perfectly possible to produce a large range of shapes and colours, offering nearly 25.000 possibilities, with an excellent service, quality and competitive prices.
The Recycling Loop
The recycling cycle takes place in six steps and begins and ends with the end user.
- By putting the glass into bottle banks the consumer starts a new process to close the loop.
- Specialized companies will collect it from the streets.
- Then the glass is transported to the premises to be sorted, cleaned, crushed and washed.
- The crushed glass is transported to the factory of Vidrios San Miguel. Here the production of glass products made of 100 % recycled glass starts; a transformation from raw materials to trendy glass products for home and gastronomy. Some of them are decorated with environmentally-friendly organic paints.
- The products are delivered to the consumer and dealers.
- By buying recycled glass products the consumer closes the recycling loop.
The Advantages of Glass Recycling for Environment and Nature
- Recycled glass is melted at a lower temperature and therefore uses less energy.
- By recycling glass you save energy. The saved energy on recycling one single bottle is enough to maintain a 100W light bulb for 4 hours.
- The volume of waste going to landfill is dramatically reduced as well as that which is involved in the illegal and uncontrolled tipping of waste.
