To meet our today standards of living and housing and most of all of sleeping, speltex uses high quality eelgrass, which has been collected and selected by hand. Eelgrass (Zostera marina) is a natural product from wild harvesting at the beaches of the Baltic sea. For centuries it has been used to fill pillows and mattresses as well as material to cover houses.

speltex soaks it with liquid vegetal latex, dry and heat it. This process stabilizes the curly structure and elasticity of the dry eelgrass. Thus, the products filled with our eelgrass keep their shape well and give soft and yet stable support. And one more advantage – the mattress topper is relatively light because the necessary volume of filling material can be reduced. Eelgrass coated with Indian rubber is highly permeable to air and offers a perfect regulation of temperature which leads to high sleeping comfort.

Eelgrass is extremely resistant to all kinds of fungi.

Eelgrass cannot be modeled like cereal shells and husks, but compared to fillings with fibres or feathers it offers significantly more support and a very pleasant and beneficial, mildly elastic cushioning.

At the beginning the eelgras can give way a little. If the volume decreases it can be compensated for by adding filling and by plucking and shaking.

* Sanforization is a special treatment of the fabric with steam and pressure. Because of this the fabrics are very soft and shrink. For later laundry they therefore only shrink up only minimal (about 1 - 2 %).

Washing: The mattress cover is made of a breathable, durable mattress ticking from organic cotton and is machine washable up to 95° C. The shrinking is then about 2 %. At 60° C the shrinking is under 1 %. If you put the filling in special laundry nets, you can also wash the fill to 60° C. The nets allow rapid drying. Careful adjustment of the dryer will promote long life of the filling.

Lifespan: The durability of the filling with natural rubber impregnation allows a use for at least eight years or more (depending on the intensity of use). For reasons of hygiene it can be useful to replace it at shorter intervals. You can do this by yourself or ask your dealer to send it to us. The fillings can also be emptied and composted.

Allergy sufferer: The absence of dust eelgrass with rubber means a significant reduction in the risk of allergies for many sensitive users. Only in the case of high-grade latex sensitisation the mattress filled with rubber is not recommended for use.
