Barf at Greenpicks

BARF species-appropriate dog food in organic quality

The wolf is undoubtedly the progenitor of today's dog. In keeping with his diet, which mainly consists of the meat and offal of his prey, the barf feeding is the starting point for raw dog food (and cat food). A versatile and varied diet provides the four-legged friends with vital nutrients. BARF is species-appropriate dog food as it is intended by nature for carnivores. The composition and quality of the basic materials is decisive for the organic feeding of raw materials. Transparent declarations on Barf sets provide information about the origin of the natural ingredients and nutrients.

BARF organic raw food for pets

The term "barf" was coined by the American Debbie Tripp. The short word stands for "born again raw feeders", which stands for "biologically species-appropriate raw feed". Barf in organic quality offers a balanced combination of raw meat, rumen, vitamin-rich vegetables and valuable oils – without filler and without harmful additives. Feeding with untreated raw components is perfectly matched to the nutritional requirements of every dog and cat breed as well as the body weight and age of the pets.

For holistically oriented dog owners, the nature-loving and animal-loving attitude of life dictates that the ingredients for barf feeding come from species-appropriate animal farming. In species-appropriate husbandry the animals receive organically produced feed without antibiotics and growth accelerators. The meat is preserved immediately after slaughter, i.e. packed airtight and in portions in cans.
Alternatively, buy the meat from your trusted butcher and freeze it. Frozen meat or barf meat in a can have an extended shelf life and enable good stock-keeping.

With the mixture of 70% to 80% meat from horse, beef, chicken, turkey, rabbit, game or reindeer and 20% to 30% vegetables, varied barf meals are created. The rules of organic cultivation also apply to vegetable raw materials. Fruits and vegetables, but also cereal flakes and supplements such as minerals, trace elements and vitamins come from certified organic farming, which does not use pesticides and fertilizers. And instead relies on GMO-free seeds, crop rotation and organic fertilizers.

The EU organic seal, the Demeter certification mark and other common international seals for organic and species-appropriate pet food testify to the organic quality of fresh meat and parts of plants.

Canned BARF meat

The BARF for dogs mainly uses flesh, offal, bones and cartilage from beef, horse, lamb, game or poultry. If you have time, add 20% of the raw dog food with boiled potatoes, rice, pasta, carrots, mashed vegetables or fruit. Chicken, duck, turkey, venison and fish are naturally on the cat's menu.

For those who are short of time to put together the BARF meals or first of all would like to try out the barf feeding, Greenpicks offers ready-to-serve Barf menus, which can be supplemented with a flake mix, organic oil and organic herbs if required. DLG-certified dog food menus and starter packages make it easy to get started with the BARF method.

When portioning dog’s food, pay attention to the individual dietary needs and the life situation of your dog or cat or get advice from a veterinarian for the nutritionally composition.

Like the wolf, the dog is not a pure carnivore. Raw meat feeding supplemented by vegetables, fruit, calcium suppliers such as soft poultry bones and suitable additives, such as high-quality oil, seaweed as iodine supplier, etc. are the components for a balanced and fresh dog food.
